Dave Shaw: Chief instructor

Sensei Dave Shaw is the chief instructor at Oshawa Budo Karate Club. With 35 years of experience in martial arts, Sensei Shaw brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our dojo. His dedication to traditional karate teaching, combined with a fun and engaging atmosphere, ensures that students enjoy their training while achieving their goals. He believes in hard work that truly pays off, fostering discipline and growth in every student.

A journey rooted in tradition

Sensei Shaw's journey in martial arts began in New Brunswick, where he started training in Wado-ryu karate as a child. After moving to Ontario, he and his family embraced Goju-ryu karate in 2003, finding a deep connection to its principles and techniques. What he loves most about teaching is seeing students develop not just as martial artists, but as confident and disciplined individuals.

Our unique teaching philosophy

Our instructors are passionate about sharing the benefits of Goju-ryu karate and Japanese Jiu Jitsu. They focus on creating a supportive and challenging environment where every student can thrive. From beginners to advanced practitioners, you'll find guidance that is both rigorous and rewarding. We believe in building strong foundations and fostering a lifelong love for martial arts.
